“The U.S. solar industry is in an unsustainable situation, with a number of challenges hampering our ongoing operations and continued growth. Current challenges are affecting large-scale solar developers’ ability to procure product at reasonable prices and in a timely fashion. And that’s if the product can be procured at all.
Specifically, we’re dealing with:
- Tariffs on Chinese panels and the threat of tariffs on panels from other Asian countries
- A ban on products containing silicon from China’s Hoshine region
- Escalating shipping prices due to COVID business interruptions
- Inability to procure modules due to COVID-related factory closures and constrained supply.
As the former president of a major U.S. module manufacturer, I use my industry knowledge and contacts to help developers surmount industry challenges. In Spring 2022, that focus expanded to include the production of our own modules made in Panama with all Tier 1 BOM, free of Hoshine silicon and not subject to tariffs.
